About

My final media documentary for 2020 is about the impact climate change has caused so far and the future issues that will arise if no action is taken. The film also focuses on one of the most popular climate activist groups Extinction Rebellion which has garnered a massive amount of media coverage from both sides of the political spectrum. I got the opportunity to interview the spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion, Zion Lights, to learn more about the main objectives this movement has. To achieve the goals set out for this documentary, I had to research a large number of sources in order to collect more data about climate change. It was of most importance that any information used is free from bias. I achieved this by looking at multiple sources for confirmation. Conducting a public survey about respondents' views on climate change and Extinction Rebellion helped to identify questions people had about the topic, which were answered in my film.

This documentary is about one of the biggest problems we are currently facing, climate chnage. I explain the devastating effects our actions have and will continue to have on nature and people. One of the most popular climate activist groups, Extinction Rebellion, has garnered massive amounts of media coverage from both sides of the political spectrum. I got the opportunity to interview the spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion, Zion Lights, to learn more about the main objectives of the movement. For this documentary, I had to research a large number of sources to collect data about climate change. It was of most importance that all information used is free from bias. Conducting a public survey about respondents' views on climate change and Extinction Rebellion helped identify questions people had about the topic, which were answered in my film.

Extinction Rebellion has generated massive media coverage and successfully created a conversation about the government's flawed steps to tackling the climate crisis we are facing.

Process

This project was started during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, which challenged the production of the documentary. Due to the laws imposed by the lockdown, all communication and interviews had to be done online. Certain technological errors meant that I had limited access to video editing software and had to work around these limitations. Due to this, it was particularly important to choose a stylistic theme that allowed errors in case any occurred. All motion graphics seen in the film were made using Adobe Illustrator and animated in Microsoft PowerPoint. The documentary was edited using Adobe Rush, a smartphone application. I spent a significant amount of time looking for and producing different sound effects used in the video to make it more captivating. Alongside this film, I developed an online blog where I shared my experience working on the project as well as my findings. Some captures from the blog are shown on this page.
